Matthew Roughley

Matthew Roughley is a conductor, vocal arranger and music education specialist.

Matt’s high energy, informative and engaging style has led him to work all over the UK with both professional and amateur choirs and singers for many of the UK’s leading arts organisations including the Hallé, Opera North, National Youth Choirs and Sing for Pleasure where he tutors in conducting.

He is the founder and director of the vocal group Manchester Vocal Ensemble who specialise in original contemporary, a cappella arrangements.

Alongside his varied freelance work, he is also the founder and director of Sale Youth Choirs, and is the director of N-Choir, an upper voice SSA community choir.

A specialist in music education, Matthew previously led the choral activity with Opera North’s award winning InHarmony programme and continues to work as a choral and musicianship practitioner training music leaders in schools across the UK. Matthew is also an associate artist with the Hallé where he directs the Hallé Youth Training Choir.
