Anu is an award-winning and experienced choir director, having worked in this capacity for over 30 years.
As part of her role as Music Director at Liverpool Lighthouse she currently directs three choirs: (i) Lighthouse Choir – known for TV appearances such as Comic Relief and Songs of Praise; (ii) Love & Joy Gospel Choir – a renowned gospel choir in the North West with decades of high profile engagements and appearances and (iii) the Liverpool Gospel Youth Choir who recently sang in front of thousands on the same stage as Nasher, Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s guitarist!
She directed, managed, wrote songs and produced for the award-winning The Reapers Choir for many years with whom she maintains a great professional relationship. The Reapers Choir was a finalist in BBC1’s Gospel Choir of the Year 2014 and has performed in venues including 10 Downing Street for the Prime Minister, Kensington Palace, the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, and the London African Music Festival and several venues too numerous to mention. The Reapers Choir won and was nominated for several awards.
Historically, Anu tutored many other choirs, singing groups and individual singers comprising every age, background and level of musical experience, working both nationally and internationally. She is frequently called upon to provide vocal training workshops to singers, groups and choirs at educational institutions and music academies and has just about managed to maintain a limited roster of other choirs/groups that she coaches periodically.
Anu was an off-screen judge for BBC Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year 2024, 2023 and 2019, was on the panel of judges for the University Gospel Choir of the Year 2024 and 2018 and was an official vocal coach for the University Gospel Choir of the Year for years.
She is the Festival Director for the Liverpool Gospel Music Festival, Co-Chair of the Gospel Music Industry Alliance UK and a Fellow of the Rock School of Learning.
