Orchestral & Choral Conductor
Dominic Peckham is regarded as one of the UK’s finest dynamic orchestral and choral conductors of his generation. Peckham has been praised at home and abroad for his ‘freshness and vitality’ directing both orchestras and choirs. A conductor of immense energy and focus delivering ‘gutsy, raw and exciting performances’, Peckham is renowned for his dedication to the Renaissance and Baroque era, whilst also passionate about the delivery of new works and inspirational collaborations.
Peckham has been commended by reviewers as ‘a lithe and modern Handelian…’ and has worked with orchestras including BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and has marked his debut at the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Usher Hall, Bridgewater Hall and Wigmore Hall. In addition, he has prepared performances for conductors Stephane Deneve, Richard Hickox, Bernard Labadie, Edward Gardner, Simon Halsey, David Hill, Christopher Bell, Vassily Sinaisky, Sir David Willcocks, Lorin Maazel, Stefan Bevier and John Rutter.
Peckham holds an impressive array of posts including Musical Director of the London Oriana Choir, Assistant Music Director of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, Founder of iSingUK, Artistic Director of the Fourth Choir, Director of the Ulster Youth Choir, and is a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Oxford. Recent additional positions have included Conductor of Trinity Laban Conservatoire Chorus and Orchestra, Guest Chorus Master at English National Opera, Chorus Master of Pete Townshend’s Classic Quadrophenia at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Alfie Boe, and Guest Conductor for Aldeburgh Music.
Recent highlights and upcoming engagements include several tours to Kenya to launch the National Youth Choir of Kenya; returning as Guest Conductor for Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance; chorus master for Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Guest Conductor with the London Mozart Players; Presenter for the Royal Opera House BP Big Screens, alongside numerous Insight events for the Royal Opera House. An ambassador of international renown for choral and vocal music through both performance and extensive pioneering educational work across the world, Dominic recently appeared on BBC 2 as lead mentor for The Naked Choir with Gareth Malone and released a book with Bloomsbury Publishing entitled ‘Inspire your Choir’. He regularly appears as a keynote speaker and educator at musical and non-musical conferences across the globe. Appearances in 2016 include Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Qatar, Singapore, Nepal, the Netherlands and China, as well as institutions across the UK.
Keen to promote and support new music, Peckham has conducted several world premieres, notably Oliver Searle’s ‘Pride, Poverty and Pianos’ for the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Toby Young’s ‘Love and Harmony’, three premieres by Cheryl Frances-Hoad for the London Mozart Players and Alexander Campkin’s ‘The First Kiss’. A talented composer and arranger himself, Peckham’s recent premières include works with the National Youth Jazz Collective and the National Choir of Great Britain at the Barbican.
